April is National Poetry month and my students and I are celebrating it by creating poetry books that will include various types of poems. For the past few weeks, we've been learning and reviewing a plethora of different types of poems. We've covered word patterns (a personal & class favorite!), Lanterns, Terse Verse, ABC Poetry, Quatrains, Cinquains, Feustrains (just kidding, wanted to make sure you are THINKING while you are reading), Couplets and more....much, much more! The students are getting quite good at creating the various types of poetry and I hope they respond to this post like never before. I am challenging them (and the other readers of this blog, thank you "others") to create at least 30 different poems in the comment section of this post. Why 30? For the 30 days of April that is National Poetry Month. Need some helped with what types of poetry to create? Here are two websites to help you get started! Just click on them as they are links! Giggle Poetry Poetry for Kids
There are only 17 days of the month left (if you count today). Can the readers of this blog meet the challenge? Only time will tell. Thanks in advance to all who post their poems, and enjoy creating those poems! We can't wait to read them!
I just might have a few up my sleeve right now.

Because I am locked in this dark room
Cats are meowing and
Dogs are barking scarcely outside
Do I have to go to bed yet?
Did you like them? ^_^
Well Done Bailey! We are off to a great start. Here is a couplet I created about my very social class this year. It's called:
ReplyDeleteSocial Students
As I look out at my students, I see a social bunch,
They sure do love their talking, especially at lunch.
Talking out at recess, and talking during snack,
They are talking, talking, talking, and it's hard to turn my back.
I wonder what they talk about, and am curious to see,
Who or what they're talking about, I sure hope it's not me.
They use Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter, to make their talking easy,
Is the stuff they discuss important, or it is just real cheesey.
These kids just keep a talking, like it's their one and only job,
If I could just locate their volume, and turn down that precious knob.
I have a couplet today.
ReplyDeleteSkatebosrding!
I was skating down a hill
with my new friend bill
As I start to fly
I will say "Bye Bye"
And when I'm in the air
I will be soo scared
That I don't fall
Into the Mall
Because then.. people would see,people
would want,
Then it would probably start to Haunt
When I am done I will find my friend Bill
Then we will go down that one hill.

ReplyDeleteMonster!
There is a monster that's under my bed,
he is blue, purple, green, and red.
He scares me every night and day,
even when I'm in the bay.
The floor in my house is very creaky,
that's what makes the night more freaky.
My room is black in the dark nights,
that's why I use 27 night lights.
He loves to eat people that run freely,
hopefully he will never want to eat me!
